In Dairy Bollofaro had filled half a wagon with cheese. Now that they were in Minerstown again there was a lot to do. The leather items and weapons for the apprentices needed to be picked up, the rest of the cheese wagon was packed with salted and smoked beef, some cloth was purchased and the last of the materials for Shooter to work with were bought. Only one wagon was left empty.

Cori had to ask, “What is that wagon for?”

“Mutton.” The tone in Bollofaro’s voice told them all that he was tired of eating fish everyday back at the ranch. “I guess we could throw in some flour and corn meal for Essira’s pantry.”

They all retired early that night, remembering all to well the last trip to Millersville.

At daybreak they were on their way to Millersville, the same breakneck speed as before. The only consolation was that this time the wagons were nearly empty. This trip was thankfully uneventful, and they made town just as darkness was setting in.

The following day was spent watching the wagons being loaded at three different locations around town. The most notable difference in town was the presence of about twenty armed men. Nelson told the men that they would be watching the wagons overnight. Their leader was a man of average height, that was the only thing average about him. With a chest that would strain the sides of a barrel and arms the size of most mens legs, he had to be considered a big man. Neither he or his men wore any sort of livery, their clothing differed from man to man, the only similarity was in how they carried themselves and their swords.

Carson invited the leader for ale so he could meet the new guys.

Just after the meal was finished Jaffar shifted in his seat, he was looking at the doorway. “Mercenary.” As if that would explain the silence that had claimed the room.

Carson turned and looked. “Milton! Over here.” When he turned back to his companions shocked faces, he explained. “Milton is one of the good guys. He is contracted to defend the town from the local humanoids and he does a damn good job considering he only has twenty men.” Milton stepped up to the table. “Milton, have a seat. I think you know Shooter. This is Jaffar, Bollofaro and Cori.”

“Nice.” He looked back at Carson, “You said ale, so you have more to say than that.”

“Yes I do. Gentlemen forgive Milton’s gruff nature. It would seem that politeness is wasted on his usual company.” Carson waved the barmaid over as he spoke. “Ok, since I know you don’t like to waist words. I also know you have no love for the temple…”

Milton stopped him there. “I don’t discuss the temple in mixed company.”

“Perhaps I should amend my introductions.” He extended a hand palm upward, “His Eminence Jaffar Ibn Ravi, head of the temple of Malphas.”

Milton looked Jaffar over again. “You don’t look like no priest. You’re not armed like no priest.
